at stake는 좋은 결과가 생길지 나쁜 결과가 생길지 예측할 수 없어 상황이 위태롭다는 뜻입니다.

<예문>

Thousands of lives will be at stake if emergency aid does not arrive in the city soon.

만약 도시에 긴급 지원이 도착하지 않으면 수 천의 목숨이 위태로워질 것이다.

This decision has put our lives at stake.

이 결정이 우리의 삶을 위험에 처하게 했다.

아바스 팔레스타인 대통령이 자주 국가의 지위를 선포하려던 참이였거든요.

: 자주 국가의 지위 추구를 선포하다.

quest는 '탐구, 탐색, 추구'인데 좀 더 풀어서 설명하자면,

<찾기 힘든 것을 계속 탐색해 나감/ 얻기 힘든 것을 성취하려는 시도>입니다. 그래서 quest for statehood는 팔레스타인의 입장에서 자유 국가로서의 지위를 얻는 것이 국제 상황상 쉽지 않지만 그것을 추구하겠다고 선언한다는 의미를 내포하고 있는 것이죠. 

그리고 statehood는 ①자주적인국가의 지위 혹은 ②주(州)의 지위를 뜻합니다.
